Read MoreIntroduction:
Women Empowerment Through Education is a brain child of Sr Mary Rose Claret Ogbuehi. It was founded in 2015 and is registered with the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development. WETE is funded by Stephanus Foundation and has the mandate of training young women, giving them the basic skills and education for them to be self reliant, well groomed, cultured and fully armed to face life and contribute to a holistic human development. The operating office is situated at Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), 1-3 CIDJAP Street Uwani Enugu.
Activities:
The Project kicked off with eleven young women of poor background. Most of them were picked up from their villages where they do domestic work and tend people’s farm for a pay that is too insignificant to make a living. Ten of these young women were linked to learn skills at Nazareth House Catering Centre, Coal Camp Enugu. The school is owned and managed by the Catholic Women Organisation of Enugu Diocese.
They have the same vision of training young women to be self reliant and meaningful to the society. One other beneficiary was linked to learn how to sew with a local operator, Olive Fashion Designer at Abakpa Nike Enugu. This young lady got married but was abandoned by her husband when she became sick. WETE gave meaning to her life when she was given the opportunity to learn a skill.
